This shimmering retro cut comes from Ade’s upcoming debut album, Midnight Pizza. ‘The City’ is a dreamlike track that takes influence from the warm of the thick textured synths of yesteryear, and the algorithmic, highly complex compositional style of modern artists. Even though you can’t necessarily hear them all, his influences (Squarepusher, Beck, Dr. Dre and Backstreet Boys, for example), have all had an impact on his unique style in their own ways. On this track and the rest of his upcoming album, Ade explains: “I didn’t see any real reason why I should inhibit my instincts to shapeshift and experiment at the expense of expressing myself and all my musical influences. The goal of this album was to create a kind of tie-dye Venn-diagram wherein everything I liked and felt and was inspired by could embrace and dance around.”  Check out Midnight Pizza on April 23^rd 2021. -Dan Peeke
